31 May 2015

We had an awesome first week of summer vacation!  The kids were home for Memorial Day and we spent the afternoon swimming in the Bryson’s new pool and enjoying good food and great company.  Arlo was a little hesitant about the pool at first, but he could not stay away with the sound of the happily splashing kids.  Once he realized if he just put his feet down he’d be able to stand he was fine.  He got in and out, and shivered in between, several times, and promptly passed out after lunch.   We all had so much fun!
Tuesday I used some of the extra hours I worked last week to take the day off.  Our summer babysitter came in the morning and I went to Gilbert to go to the temple.  I had a really pleasant trip up and enjoyed my time immensely.  When I was done, I just lingered under a Hong Kong Orchid (my very favorite tree).  I love to be at the temple, even just on the grounds.  In the evening I took the kids visiting teaching.  We had some changes to our route, so we now have four sisters which means we planned to break our visits up over two days.  We did a couple hours Tuesday night and then another couple Wednesday.  I am grateful for the trusting friendships I’ve forged through this inspired program.

Wednesday morning was the big day!  After very close to two years my braces came off.  My teeth look great and the feel of bare teeth is divine!  They placed a permanent retainer behind my bottom teeth before they even took the wire and brackets off so I won’t have to worry about those teeth shifting.  I’ll be picking up my retainer for my top teeth early next week.  I’m so glad that I did decide to seek orthodontic treatment.  First on the list out of the office, find an apple to eat!  My dishwasher hasn't been draining, so Victor came over to take a look at it.  We couldn't find a cause for the problem so I may be stuck replacing it.  Arlo enjoyed picking through Victor's tools while we troubleshooted.

Thursday was business as usual.  I had a dentist appointment in the afternoon and was so very happy to have my newly naked teeth properly cleaned.  The hygienist said that I had taken very good care of them.  The kids and I were home together on Friday and we spent the morning cleaning up and then in the afternoon they went over to Nana and Papa’s and I went into Tucson to have my hair cut.  Felicity had a soccer game in the evening and that was fun.  She is really enjoying it.

Saturday I was up early and over to the church where we were having our Girls’ Camp Kick-off event.  I was teaching CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, and a few other things to the girls in rotations.  It was a fun and successful event and now I’m excited to go to camp in a couple of weeks.  The kids went to spend the day with their dad, so I worked on cleaning the house, getting through the laundry, working in the garden, and going grocery shopping.  I also worked on a birthday cake.  In the evening I picked up the kids and then finished up the cake with Mindy and Melynda’s help.

Sunday was a little hectic.  The kids were fairly good in Sacrament meeting, even though half way through the electricity went out and we had the remainder of our meetings without air conditioning!  I volunteered to teach Felicity’s Primary class because her teacher was out.  We had a nice lesson on gratitude.  In the afternoon I actually took a nap and then the kids and I went to Nana and Papa’s to have dinner and visit.

I have been so happy with the loosey-goosey schedule and not having to wake the kids up and hurry to get them out the door.  I like the slower pace.  I’m sure within a few short weeks I’ll be lamenting the loss of my safe and structured schedule, but for now, this is nice.
